Director Sandra Root: Qualifications and Experience
Sandra Root is a teacher recognized for her expertise in program
development and holds her
Master’s in Environmental Education. She
trained in Canada and the United States and has a strong background in
curriculum planning. Sandy has a creative strength which enables her
to articulate an idea and
resource its inception. She is sited for her skills in having
designed; developed and
implemented a series of core city school programs. Sandra
has an extensive background in directing and leading residential and
day camps. As a master interpreter, she has,
for the past several years, provided staff training workshops for Brock
University: Hamilton Campus, City of Burlington, the City of York,
Oakville Parks and Recreation, Black Creek
Pioneer Village, the Hamilton Conservation Authority and a host of
other respected organizations.
Sandra is well recognized in the
field of environmental education, and was awarded the Award of Merit
for her work in Environmental Education within the city of Hamilton,
Ontario. Sandy is also a fly fishing enthusiast and co-conservation
chair of the Hamilton Area Fly Fishers and Tyers. She regularly
travels to unique river systems to hone her fishing skills and in 2006
she received the bronze medallion at the Canadian Fly Fishing
Championships in Fergus Ontario, along with her four team members.
She is also a current member of the Hamilton-Wentworth Stewardship
Council and a board member with the Giant's Rib Discovery Centre
Staff

Our Down To Earth team includes teachers,
interpretive staff, recreation specialists and a variety of outdoor
advisors. We are extremely proud of all of our staff members, who are
particularly chosen for their affinity for working with children and
adults in the out-of-doors. All are exceptionally talented.
