Outdoor Program Sessions in Environmental Education

How to Prepare for the Trip

  • Please notify Beth Stormont at the Trail Centre in advance of any students with special needs.
    Phone: 905 627-1233.  
    Note: the terrain is extremely rough.
  • Ensure that all students, teachers and volunteers are properly attired for the outdoor program.
  • All participants must bring a lunch.
  • Students will be working in small groups of 5 to 6 students. 
  • Please photocopy the necessary worksheets for your class.
  • All program equipment and on-site materials are supplied.
  • Raincoats are available for students as required.
  • Students may be photographed when participating in the programs, please ensure that the necessary consent forms are completed ahead of time for your class.  

General Outline for the Day

  • Program instructors will meet the bus in the main parking lot.

  • The instructors will lead the classes to the Trail Centre to outline the day.

  • At the Trail Centre, one class will begin the Outdoor Program Session  with the on site instructor.

  • The other class, led by the classroom teacher, will be given a brief introduction to the area  and be responsible for their own activity.

  • Lunch will be approximately 30 minutes.

  • After lunch the group that participated in the Outdoor Program Session  will switch activities with theother class.  They will be given a brief introduction to the area and will then be responsible for their own activity.

  • The other group will then participate in the Outdoor Program Session  as led by the site instructor.

  • At the end of the day teachers may be asked to complete and hand in an evaluation of their day.

  • Please remember that the full amount of this outdoor environmental education experience was paid through grants received by the authority.  

  • Teachers and students are encouraged to write to the program sponsor in order to thank them.  Future programs rely on your letters of appreciation.
