Curriculum Outlines

 Dave Brown Centre Programs

  • Grade One:  “The World Outdoors, Plants & Animals:  Basic Needs for Survival”.  Students will identify and interpret the survival needs of plants and animals in the local habitat.  Activities include simulation activities, exploration, observation and group tasks in an authentic environment.

  • Grade Two:  Animals, Animals, Everywhere!  Students will examine, identify and interpret the signs of native animals and birds in the area.  Students are involved in simulation activities, exploration, observation and hands-on learning.
  • Grade Three:  Plant’astic!  Students will explore the local environment investigating what grows there.  Plant identification, measurement, comparison, soil, plant needs and native plant folklore are part of the hands-on program.  Program will be adapted to suit season and outdoor plant community available for study.

Programs run on a first come, first served basis throughout the winter and spring.

A Special Thank You  These programs are being provided through grant funding received from Columbian Chemicals and the Hamilton Industrial Environmental Association.  This funding is designated specifically for Primary Classes located in the lower city area, formerly city clusters, east and west.
