The Habitat Habit 

A Water & Land Ecosystems Environmental Ed. Unit

The unit is designed for students in Grade 4.  The focus of this program is to provide students with a hands-on outdoor education experience that meets overall student learning expectations from the “Science and Technology Life Systems Strand:  Habitats and Communities .

Program Description:  'The Habitat Habit' is an investigation of the unique habitats of the Dundas Valley Conservation Area including, streams, ravines, valleys, forests, meadows and escarpment. Selected classes will participate in a full day field trip to the Dundas Valley Conservation Area.

  • To explore river banks, fallen trees, look under logs and search beneath rocks to find out who or what is living there. 

  • To observe and record examples of the diversity of habitat and communities in nature.  

  • To develop an understanding of the interconnectedness among all living things.  

  • To investigate the adaptations that plants and animals make in order to adjust to their habitat.
